Columbus, OH – Ohioans who've been waiting for more than a decade for big changes in the way schools are funded will probably have to wait at least another year. A proposal from education groups to make those changes remains in limbo. Democratic Governor Ted Strickland has yet to detail his plan for change and other issues have been a higher priority for Republicans who dominate the legislature. Columbus, OH – 2007 was a mixed year for public safety in Columbus. The city's homicide rate fell by more than 20 percent, and most neutral observers credit this year's summer strike force by police for taking hundreds of weapons and wanted felons off the streets. But a racially-charged video made by a Columbus police officer surfaced on the internet this year, and officer misconduct as well as police involved shootings made headlines. All of this against the backdrop of police staffing questions and a shaky city budget outlook.
