Activists Plan Another City Hall Demonstration Next Week

Associated Press

The future of the white Columbus police officer who shot and killed a 13-year-old African-American boy is still unclear. 31-year-old Bryan Mason remains on to desk duty while authorities investigate. Mason had three previous shootings and one fatality on his record before he shot and killed Tyre King earlier this month on the east side. Police Chief Kim Jacobs says his future is still under consideration, but Mason likely will not return to patrol duty. Protesters who shut down last Monday's Columbus City Council meeting plan another demonstration at City Hall next week. More than two-dozen people staged a demonstration outside of Columbus Mayor Andy Ginther's home last night. They want Ginther to direct police funding to crime prevention programs and to end safety initiatives they say cause tensions in black neighborhoods.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
