A citizens' group for the third time is proposing a ballot issue changing Columbus City Council from an at-large election system to a ward system.
A group called Everyday People for Positive Change has submitted over 42 thousand petition signatures to the Franklin County Board of Elections. If the signatures are validated, the measure would go on the May ballot if Council approves it. Spokesperson Johnathan Beard says this is a civil rights issue.
The proposal creates 10 wards, and three council members would be elected at-large. Current council members have yet to comment.
