Attorneys Say If Meyer Deleted Text Messages, It's Illegal

solveyourtech.com

Open records experts say any attempt by Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer to eliminate older text messages from his phone to hide information would be without question illegal.

The university's investigation that led up to Meyer's three-game suspension says he discussed ways to change the settings on his phone to eliminate messages older than a year about domestic violence allegations against now former assistant coach Zach Smith. Investigators said they couldn't determine if the settings were changed or if the messages were on the phone at the time. Open records lawyer Fred Gittes says any elimination of texts would break Ohio's open records law.
