City Settles Excessive Force, Wrongful Arrest Lawsuit Against Police

The City of Columbus will pay a man 50 thousand dollars to settle his lawsuit against police for wrongful arrest and excessive use of force. City Attorney Rick Pfeiffer says Robert Vigh was arrested at a Park Street bar in 2014 when he refused to obey the commands of two special-duty officers to leave.

Officers Samuel Chappell and Bryan Brumfield, along with police chief Kim Jacobs and the city, were defendants in the lawsuit. The settlement was approved by Columbus City Council this past Monday.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
