Columbus Blue Jackets To Name New Captain

The Columbus Blue Jackets will name a new captain tomorrow, the first since former captain Rick Nash left for the New York Rangers in 2012.

Although the team is not releasing the name until tomorrows press conference, it's widely believed forward Nick Foligno will be awarded the "C".  Filigno, who came to Columbus from Ottawa in 2012, has had 31 goals and 73 points in 79 games with the Jackets, and just signed a six-year 33 million dollar contract extension with the club on New Year's Eve.  The 27-year old Foligno has has emerged as a leader in the locker room, and become very active in the community.  Earlier this year, he served as one of the captains at the NHL All-Star Game in Columbus.

A native of Chicago, naturalized citizen of Cincinnati and resident of Columbus, Alison attended Earlham College and the Ohio State University. She has equal passion for Midwest history, hockey and Slavic poetry.
