Columbus Opposes Liquor License Renewals For Nine Local Establishments

Columbus City Council last night voted to oppose renewing the annual liquor licenses of nine local bars and carryouts. Assistant Columbus City Attorney Bill Sperlazza says it's an annual process targeting establishments that are havens for criminal activity.

Sperlazza says nine establishments are being targeted this year, including Diamond Jim's on South Hamilton Road.

Two other establishments targeted are Nick's Cabaret on East Dublin-Granville Road and Rachel's Gentlemen's Club on Channingway Boulevard.

Cities have until January to file such objections with the Ohio Division of Liquor Control. The state has the final say on renewals.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
