Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs says she will retire in February.

Jacobs took over in 2012. Her tenure has been marked by multiple problems within the police division, including the assaults or killings of unarmed blacks by white officers, the politically-motivated arrest of porn star Stormy Daniels, lawsuits alleging racial discrimination within the division, battles with the Mayor over funding, and officers involved in criminal activity. Thanks to a change in the job description, Jacobs' successor could come from outside of the city and the division. Mayor Andy Ginther's office says he will seek public input before a successor is named.
