Defense Attorneys Want Kasich To Testify During Corruption Trial

cleveland.com

Republican Ohio Governor John Kasich is fighting a subpoena to testify for the defense at the federal trial of a businessman accused of using employees and others to funnel illegal campaign contributions to two GOP politicians. Attorneys for North Canton telemarketing millionaire Ben Suarez want Kasich to testify it is not improper for constituents to reach out to elected officials for help. The Ohio Attorney General's Office says Suarez is not allowed to subpoena Kasich just because the testimony would be persuasive. Kasich spokesperson Rob Nichols says there is no reason to seek the governor's testimony.
