FirstEnergy Plans To Close Davis-Besse, Perry Nuclear Power Plants

Ohio Public Radio

Akron-based FirstEnergy says it plans to close its Davis-Besse and Perry nuclear power plants within the next three years.

The company plans to close Davis-Besse in 2020. The Perry plant would close in 2021. Millions of dollars in tax revenue and hundreds of jobs will be lost.  FirstEnergy cites rising operating costs. State lawmakers so far have balked at FirstEnergy's request to raise customer rates to bail out the plants.    But the company says it's willing to work with lawmakers to find ways to keep the plants operating.
