Historic Preservation Tax Credits Awarded For Multiple Projects

Columbus City Schools

The Ohio Development Services Agency has awarded millions of dollars in Historic Preservation Tax Credits for several projects around the state.

Jim Letizia reports.

A 3.3 million dollar credit will be used to help turn the former Barrett High School on East Deshler Avenue into a residential housing complex. The building was constructed in the late 1800s. A 1.4 million dollar tax credit goes to help renovate the Granville Inn hotel and conference center. The YWCA building on South Fourth Street downtown is being renovated, and gets a 440-thousand dollar tax credit. 4 million dollars in historic preservation tax credits will help create an entertainment district next to the Toledo Mud Hens' downtown ballpark. The team plans to turn three vacant buildings into new spaces for shopping, eating and entertaining. Work on the nearly 19 million dollar project is expected to begin sometime next year. Officials have also approved 25 million dollars in historic preservation tax credits to fund renovations of Cincinnati's historic Music Hall. And a credit of nearly 2 million dollars will help turn the Weustoff and Getz building in Dayton into a shopping and apartment complex.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
