Hours And Programs Extended At Columbus Rec Centers For Heat Relief

Four Columbus recreation centers will stay open late Tuesday, and another six will offer programming for seniors, to help residents escape extreme heat and humidity.

Four centers will offer heat relief from noon to 9pm, including:

-- Beatty Community Center, 247 N. Ohio Avenue;

-- Dodge Community Center, 667 Sullivant Avenue;

-- Far East Community Center, 1826 Lattimer Drive and;

-- Whetstone Community Center, 3923 N. High Street.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther says the extended hours will give students on early dismissal from Columbus City Schools a place to cool off in the afternoon.  For older residents, there will be seniors programming available from 8am to 5 pm at six locations:

-- Barnett Community Center,  1184 Barnett Road;

-- Dodge Community Center, 667 Sullivant Avenue;

-- Gillie Community Senior Center;

-- Marion Franklin Community Center, 2801 Lockbourne Avenue;

-- Martin Janis Community Senior Center 600 E. 11th Avenue and;
