Kasich Vows To Crack Down On Bad Charter Schools

Republican Ohio Governor John Kasich says he plans to push against political adversaries during his second term, as he tries to enact restrictions on charter schools and reach a satisfactory compromise on renewable-energy mandates.

He spoke at an Ohio Chamber of Commerce event Thursday along with Ohio Senate President Keith Faber and retiring House Speaker Bill Batchelder. Kasich highlighted the benefits of expanding Medicaid and his economic policies, including creation of the privatized job-creation entity JobsOhio. One thing Kasich says to expect in the budget next year is a crackdown on poor performing charter schools.

Kasich also says he wants to lower the state income tax more, and increase cigarette taxes to pay for it.
