Macy's To Close At Least Three Ohio Stores

A clearance sale is scheduled to begin next week at the Macy's store in the Kingsdale Shopping Center. The Cincinnati-based retailer says it'll close that location and 13 others in the next 8 to 12 weeks as part of a plan to restructure its merchandising and marketing and lay off of thousands of workers in response to changes in the way customers shop in stores and online. At least two other Ohio stores will be closed. The closures will save roughly 140 million dollars. Macy's says it plans to reinvest those savings into its business. Its overall workforce of 175 thousand will remain level as it picks up staffing in other functions. Same-store sales rose 2.7 percent during November and December, in line with its expectations.
