Ohio Bill Aims To Help Veterans With College, Jobs

A bill aimed at making it easier for Ohio veterans to get college and professional licensing credit for their military experience is on its way to the state Senate.

The legislation recently approved overwhelmingly by the Ohio House is similar to laws being enacted by other states to help returning veterans re-enter the civilian workforce. The laws began to emerge following reports of high unemployment among the growing number of post-9/11 veterans. Among other things, the measure would provide more uniform standards for awarding credit for military experience in the state's public colleges. It also requires state boards and commissions to prioritize and speed up occupational licensing and certification for veterans and their spouses.
