Majority Republicans in the Ohio House have approved a resolution asking the federal government to stop sending Syrian refugees to the state. But the House Speaker wants the feds to improve refugee screening. Ohio Public Radio's Andy Chow reports.
House Speaker Cliff Rosenberger of Clarksville said the federal government isn’t doing enough to thoroughly investigate each refugee coming into the country from Syria. Rosenberger said spurring the feds to improve their screenings is important for everyone involved.
Rosenberger: “This is an effort to protect those who are refugees that are truly coming into our country -- not to be used by terrorist organizations like ISIS.”
The House passed a resolution telling the president to stop letting displaced Syrians into the country, an idea Republican presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich also supports. The speaker said this is a timeout so the feds can make a better system.
