Ohio Judge Indicted For Stealing Money From Deceased Client's Home

A federal grand jury has indicted a Mahoning County judge accused of stealing more than 100 thousand dollars from a former client.

Federal prosecutors say 50-year-old Diane Vettori-Caraballo stole cash from the home of former client Dolores Falgiani after Falgiani's death in March 2016. Vettori-Caraballo is charged with one count of mail fraud, one count of structuring cash deposits and one count of making false statements to law enforcement. She and her husband are also charged with filing a false tax return. Vettori-Caraballo told FBI agents the money came from her husband's retirement account and claimed she hadn't "received a nickel" from Falgiani's estate. The judge was first elected in 2002. Vettori-Caraballo isn't allowed to hear cases while charges against her are pending.
