Oil And Gas Companies Pay 1.7 Million To Lease Wayne National Forest Land For Fracking

buckeyeforestcouncil.org

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says oil-and-gas drillers from five states have paid more than 1.7 million dollars to lease 759 acres of Wayne National Forest land for fracking. The companies are in Texas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Colorado and Oklahoma. The bureau rejected 100 complaints about the auctioning of mineral rights filed by environmental groups who say fracking damages water quality and wildlife habitat. Lessees are still required to obtain a permit before any fracking could begin.
