OSU, Nike Extend Contract

nike.com

Ohio State University has agreed to a 12 year, 252 million dollar extension of its sponsorship contract with athletic apparel maker Nike. The partnership will continue through the year 2033. The deal includes 22.5 million in cash and 5 million in products up-front. OSU Officials say the cash will be used to establish a scholarship endowment and a fund to be spent at the OSU president's discretion. Another 10 million will go toward an endowment for the athletic department. The agreement also calls for at least 500 thousand dollars worth of Nike apparel to be given to Ohio State students annually beginning in 2018. Critics of the deal say Ohio State is profiting from a company that uses the labor of children in foreign countries and pays extremely low wages.
