Ohio State University says it paid a law firm 1 million dollars for the investigation that led to the three-game suspension of now former football coach Urban Meyer - twice the amount originally requested.
The school says the preliminary request did not reflect the anticipated cost. The investigation concluded Meyer mishandled repeated problems from Zach Smith, a now-former assistant coach accused of domestic violence. Meyer and athletic director Gene Smith were suspended for their handling of Smith, the grandson of Meyer mentor and late OSU coach Earle Bruce.
