Panel To Explore Mayoral Control Of CCS

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman’s Education Commission later this month will explore whether an elected school board is the best way to run the Columbus City Schools.Commission director and former Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut says mayoral control of the district is among the management models that will be explored. Coleman has repeatedly said he does not want to run the district. The board this week passed a resolution opposing any effort to eliminate the panel or remove its authority, saying it would be unfair to the voters that elected the board members.
