The Shawnee Hills village council Monday upheld Mayor Pat Monahan recommendation that police chief Russell Barron get a three-day suspension for using a donated vehicle while off duty, drinking and lying about it.
A state official saw Baron drinking at two bars on February 6. Monahan says Baron twice lied about the amount of alcohol he consumed before and after failing field sobriety tests. He also refused a blood-alcohol test at the Delaware County Jail. In March, a special prosecutor made a motion to dismiss the drunken-driving and license plate charges due to a lack of evidence.
