State Pays Unemployment Debt To Federal Government

Ohio has paid the remaining 271 million debt to the federal government on its Great Recession-era loan to cover unemployment insurance benefits. It was paid prior to last week's deadline to avoid additional interest. The state dodged another tax hike on the state's businesses ahead of a November deadline. Lawmakers are working to address structural issues to prevent future borrowing.
