State Resumes Purging Voter Rolls

Republican Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has instructed county boards of election to resume the process for removing inactive voters from the rolls.

The processpurges voters for not participating in elections over a six-year period. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the contested process in June, but Husted said he wouldn't resume it until after the midterms. Voting-rights groups had argued it violates a federal law designed to increase the ranks of registered voters. Ohio Democratic Party Chair David Pepper says the process makes it harder to exercise voting rights and shouldn't resume.
