States And Former Federal Officials Oppose Ohio's Voter Roll Purging

Ohio Public Radio

Opponents of Ohio's system for removing inactive voters from the rolls are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the practice. Twelve states and the District of Columbia, 27 Congressional Black Caucus representatives; 17 former Justice Department officials; 36 former and current county election administrators; and Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio have filed briefs arguing the system is illegal. Republican Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted argues maintaining up-to-date voter rolls helps ensure election integrity.
