State lawmakers have approved a bill requiring convicted arsonists to register with local sheriffs departments.
The Governor plans to sign it into law. The legislation creates a statewide registry of arsonists. Supporters say the measure could help deter repeat arsons, reduce damage and save lives. Under a legislative compromise, the registry would not be a public record.
