Watchdog Groups Want To Know If ECOT Used Taxpayer Dollars To Keep Employees Quiet

Ohio Public Radio

Two government watchdog groups are seeking information from the sponsor of an online charter school operator about any taxpayer money it spent to keep employees from speaking.

Common Cause Ohio and Innovation Ohio say the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow offered non-disclosure agreements to an unknown number of employees. They included a former technology worker whose allegations of misconduct forced the state to launch an investigation. The whistleblower refused to sign the agreement and  barring comments "disparaging or negative toward" the now-closed school. It cost the whistleblower a severance package. ECOT's sponsor has yet to comment.
