Columbus City Council is once again accepting applications for vouchers of $700 or more towards an e-bike, partnering with Smart Columbus. Since launching the pilot program last year, Columbus' Resident E-bike Subsidy Program has given out nearly 300 vouchers; in May, council allocated $500,000 for up to 350 more vouchers this summer.
For the nearly 40-thousand city residents who don't have access to a car, the e-bikes can be a vital link to jobs and school, while helping reduce pollution and congestion. According to data from previous rounds, 75 percent of the people awarded vouchers were from low-income households, and the overwhelming majority says they would not have been able to purchase an e-bike without the voucher.
Applicants must be Columbus residents 18 or older, with a household income under $150,000 - subsidy amounts are based on income. Applications are being accepted online at columbusebikeincentives.com through Monday, August 19th at 7pm. Voucher awards will be announced in stages. beginning later this month.
