State auditor David Yost has announced the some Columbus City Schools officials could face criminal charges as a result of his investigation into an attendance rigging scandal. The investigation was launched this summer after allegations surfaced surrounding the Columbus City Schools, and was expanded to include other districts after officials in Toledo and suburban Cincinnati admitted similar activities. Yost says federal authorities are looking into activities, as his probe is separating the investigation from the ongoing look at other districts. The investigation has uncovered incidents of attendance records being altered at 10 schools sampled within the district. Columbus School officials have admitted that data may have been improperly erased, but have complained that the auditor's office has not given them details about the specific incidents uncovered, which they say may shed some light on *why* data was changed. The auditor says his office is also considering allegations Columbus school employees went beyond manipulating attendance records to actually changing grades, in order to present a more favorable picture of school performance.
