The Ohio Board of Regents says college-age immigrants participating in the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program are eligible for in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities. The program gives immigrants who arrived here under the age of 16 two years of legal status. Many of those students, including Maria Sanchez, cannot afford college because they are not allowed to pay in-state tuition.
The board says it acted after consulting with the Ohio Attorney General's office, which urged members to inform colleges and universities that the program's participants qualify. The board is now working to help schools comply.
