FitzGerald Backs Medical Marijuana Legalization

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald says he supports the legalization of medical marijuana if the user is under a doctor's supervision, breaking from nearly all Republicans and many Democrats in the state who have been hesitant to endorse it. The announcement follows a series of political missteps, high-level campaign departures, bad poll numbers and lackluster fundraising last month. FitzGerald says denying the drug from those with conditions it could help alleviate shows a lack of compassion. Republican incumbent John Kasich has said he opposes legalization because the medical community remains reticent on the issue.
