Ohio Nuclear Power Plant Shut Down Over Steam Leak

wikipedia

A nuclear power plant has been shut down after a steam leak was found in a non-radioactive portion of the plant in northwest Ohio. Plant operator FirstEnergy Corp. shut down its Davis-Besse nuclear power plant near Toledo on Saturday night after the leak was discovered around 7 p.m. Saturday in a part of the plant that doesn't involve the nuclear reactor.

FirstEnergy spokeswoman Jennifer Young said Sunday that the utility declared the lowest emergency category, termed an "unusual event," and ended the event around 9:30 p.m. after workers determined there was no public safety threat.

But Young says the plant would remain shut down while workers repair the leak.

FirstEnergy doesn't expect a long shutdown. Young says electricity is available from other sources and customers shouldn't be affected.
