Mismanagement Forces Closure Of Columbus Charter School

A Columbus charter school serving 300 students closed this week because of mismanagement. The Ohio Department of Education says FCI Academy on Mock Road deferred debt, borrowed money, and failed to pay federal withholding and Medicare taxes in order to try to meet its financial obligations. The school also had a poor academic performance record. The school's sponsor is Toledo-based Educational Service Center of Lake Erie Wes.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
