For seven months, Ohio’s 8th Congressional district seat will be open thanks to John Boehner’s resignation Saturday night.
Ohio Public Radio's Karen Kasler reports.
Governor John Kasich has set a special election for June 7, with a primary if needed on March 15, the same day as the presidential primary. It’ll be the first time in a quarter century there won’t be an incumbent on the ballot. And already several Republicans have expressed an interest – Sen. Bill Beagle, Rep. Tim Derickson, Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds are the officeholders who say they’ll run, along with residents Scott George and Eric Gurr and JD Winteregg – the last two ran against Boehner in 2014. A Democrat hasn’t won that district since 1932.
