The City of Columbus is forming a committee to review the city charter to examine the structure of Columbus City Council. The mayor and a council member will make a formal announcement later today. The committee is in response to a measure on the August ballot increasing the size of council and adding ward representatives. The review will not be completed before election day on August 2nd. The committee will look at the appointment process that has allowed Democrats to hold all seven council seats for over a decade, as well as other issues. Backers of the ballot measure say the committee is an attempt to suppress the vote, and a recognition by the city that a problem exists. In-person early voting on the ballot measure begins today.
