OSHA Cites Canton Steel Plant For Safety Violations

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited the Timkin Steel plant in Canton for six safety violations, including failing to protect workers from a dangerous atmosphere caused by chemicals leaking into the ventilation system. The feds say the company also failed to train workers to detect dangerous chemicals in the work area. A security worker was found dead in a plant elevator earlier this year. OSHA says nitrogen used in the plant flooded the air and caused oxygen levels to fall, thus the death was preventable. The politcally active company faces 113 thousand dollars in penalties.
