Congress has re-authorized the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, providing 300 million dollars in funding through 2021. The program already has pumped 2.2 billion dollars into more than 3 thousand cleanup and restoration projects. The bill also creates a position of coordinator to work with federal, state and local governments on toxic algae blooms and provides funding to improve Great Lakes navigation.
