ECOT Takes Funding Fight To SUPCO
The state's largest online charter school operator is asking the Ohio Supreme Court to block the state's efforts to recoup 60 million dollars in funding. The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow is fighting with the state over how attendance was counted to determine funding. The school contends officials unfairly changed that. State officials determined ECOT failed to provide documentation to justify the payments, and the Ohio Board of Education voted to pursue repayment. ECOT argues the board and the Ohio Department of Education abused their discretion, and the collection could cripple the school. The department says it's committed to ensuring that community schools get their "correct funding."
