State Jobless Rate For August Up Slightly From July

Ohio's unemployment rate for August was 5.4 percent, an increase of two-tenths of a point from July. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says today the number of jobless residents rose by 11 thousand last month to 311 thousand. But the state's non-farm payrolls rose by 52-hundred last month to a revised 5.5 million. The state saw job gains in the construction, manufacturing and private services sectors. The state lost jobs the trade, transportation and utilities sector along with the professional and business services sectors.  The U.S. unemployment rate for August was 4.4 percent.
