State Says ECOT Again Miscalculated Attendance

The Ohio Department of Education says the state's largest online charter school operator could owe another 20 dollars million for failing to properly verify enrollment properly.  The payment would come on top of the 60 million the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow has been ordered to repay.  The department says the school properly documented 11,600 of its 14,200 students. The department says the school couldn't prove 18.5 percent of its students did enough classwork to satisfy requirements.  The school is challenging how the state tallied the student log-ins.   An ECOT spokesperson says they need time to create systems for documentation. He also says the state's tally does not account for student engagement and academic success. The Ohio Supreme Court has agreed to consider the dispute.
