A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. District Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has ruled former Stanford University swimmer and Ohio native Brock Turner received a fair trial in 2016, where he was convicted of sexual assault.
Turner was convicted of assaulting an intoxicated woman at a frat party. A California judge sentenced him to six months in jail. Turner appealed the ruling and sought a new trial. The sentence sparked national outrage by those who felt it too lenient. It also led to a debate over the criminal justice system's handling of sexual assault victims. California voters recalled the judge, Aaron Persky, in June.
