A union representing Ohio bus drivers is threatening to strike if state lawmakers allow driverless busses onto local streets.
The Transport Workers Union of America is launching an informational campaign and forming a statwide coaltion on the issue. Earlier this year, it came out against driverless shuttles, citing public safety and job concerns. Union president John Samuelsen says the push for driverless busses is coming from weathly interests.
Plans are in the works to bring a driverless shuttle service to Columbus. Smart Columbus today is announcing a provider for the shuttle planned for the Scioto Mile. Samuelsen says driverless buses could put roughly 17 thousand Ohioans out of work.
