The Ohio Board of Education has voted to give state schools superintendent Paolo DeMaria a 2.75 percent raise and a 20 thousand dollar bonus.

The deal approved this week increases DeMaria's salary to nearly 190 thousand dollars. The board cites his effectiveness on the job.  Last week, state-issued report cards showed modest academic improvement.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
