City To Consider Lowering Penalties For Marijuana Possession

WCBE files

Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin says he is working on a proposal to reduce the criminal penalties for marijuana possession.

He hopes to introduce a plan next year. Hardin says as medical marijuana becomes legal, council has a 'moral obligation' to address criminal sentencing because it disproportionately hurts young people of color.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
