Brown Blasts Efforts To Restrict Reproductive Rights

twitter.com

Democratic U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio attacked the increasingly restrictive climate surrounding women's reproductive issues this week.

Citing the so-called "Heartbeat Bill" signed into law last month, and a proposed bill restricting private health care coverage of abortion and birth control, Brown said on the Senate floor Tuesday some are trying to legislate health care based on personal beliefs, not science.

Republican State Representative John Becker is the sponsor of that legislation, but Brown also had harsh words for leaders like Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who signed the bill that would ban abortion after the first detectable heartbeat.

Brown says a new wave of anti-abortion legislation passed in Ohio and other states is part of an effort to get a conservative U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the landmark Roe-v-Wade decision legalizing abortion.
