COVID-19 Cases Climb As Delta Variant Continues To Spread

Ohio Department of Health

State health officials reported 1,769 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday.

There were 124 new admissions to hospitals, 13 to intensive care units. All numbers are more than double the recent three-week average.

The daily case count is the highest since late April as Ohio continues to see the spread of the more contagious delta variant, and the state's positivity rate has reached above five-percent for the first time since February.

Health officials continue to stress the importance of vaccinations, and say that nearly all the hospitalizations and deaths are occuring among unvaccinated people.

Just over 46% of Ohioans are fully inoculated, but there are indications the rate of vaccination is picking up. The state's coronavirus website indicates over 10,000 at least began their vaccination in the past 24-hours.

Officials also recorded 38 deaths Tuesday, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in Ohio to 20,530.
