Beating the Stigma of Substance Addiction and Mental Illness

Rick Buchanan Photography

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the nation saw an increase in substance misuse, alcohol consumption, depression, and suicide rates. One in thirteen Ohioans live with addiction, and nearly 1 in 4 struggle with a mental health condition. To help address this crippling issue, Ohio created the “Beat the Stigma” campaign on behalf of the Ohio Opioid Education Alliance, a public-private partnership focused on raising awareness of addiction and mental health and the need to address both issues through major initiatives. Join CMC with a panel of experts as we mark Mental Health Awareness Month with an in-depth conversation about the steps Ohio needs to take to end this second and ongoing pandemic of addiction.

Featuring Chad Jester, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and President, Nationwide Foundation, Lori Criss, Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Ariana Hoet, Ph.D., Clinical Director and Interim Executive Director, On Our Sleeves, and Juliet Dorris-Williams, Executive Director, The P.E.E.R.
