11 Ohio executions rescheduled over next 2 years

Ohio has announced rescheduled execution dates for 11 condemned killers following a federal judge's order that put capital punishment on hold in the state through mid-January.

The new dates call for six executions next year beginning in February and five in 2016. The dates announced today came in the form of reprieves handed down by Governor John Kasich that moved execution dates back by several months. Last month federal judge Gregory Frost extended a months-long moratorium on Ohio executions as questions continued about the effectiveness of a new two-drug combination being used to carry out the death penalty. The first new execution date of Feb. 11 is set for Ronald Phillips, whose execution was previously postponed while he made an unsuccessful attempt to donate organs to family members.
