2020 Candidate Series: Rep. Allison Russo (House District 24) on 2021 Health Care Priorities in Ohio

Sep 27, 2020

For the past few months Prognosis Ohio has been spotlighting candidates in Ohio who have a particular interest in health and health care. On this week’s episode, Dan Skinner talks with State Representative Allison Russo of the 24th House district about her campaign for reelection. Russo’s background in the health field shapes her positions and values as a representative. From this perspective, she acknowledges how linked general policies are to public health and strives to bring that voice to the state level as a proponent for a multi-disciplinary lens in policymaking.

In the episode, Dan and Rep. Russo discuss health disparities that arise from a district’s history of questionable and racially/socio-economically driven policies; the role legislators and representatives play outside of their districts; and the importance of Medicaid--to Ohioans' health, but also the state budget.

You can check out Representative Allison Russo’s campaign and policy stances on her campaign website and learn about her legislative work on her official legislative website.

On the website, Dan mentions a book on the history of housing in the U.S., by Richard Rothstein. We encourage you to read it.

Rep. Russo also mentioned the Upper Arlington statement regarding racism and public health. You can read that here.
