The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio is siding with abortion protesters over the proposed creation of 15-foot buffer zones around Columbus clinics. The organization tells the Columbus city attorney's office it's concerned about legislation scheduled for a vote Monday night. It says the measure places an undue burden on free speech, noting that legal protections against harassment already are in place. The city has said those protections do not extend to certain behaviors, and peaceful speech would be permitted within the buffer zones. Columbus has seen a major increase in police calls from clinics in the past five years.
